With 80+ styles available in the MEOWICS Cat Photo Generator, picking one can be paralyzing. We ran the same handful of cat photos through every single style to find out which ones actually hold up โ not just as a novelty, but as something you'd genuinely want to post, print, or set as a wallpaper.
A few patterns emerged. Styles with strong, simple silhouettes (cartoon, pop art, vector) tend to handle cat anatomy more reliably than busy, texture-heavy styles. Styles built around lighting effects (neon, cyberpunk, vaporwave) are the most consistently shareable because they look dramatic even on a small phone screen. Here's our top 10.
1. Cyberpunk
Neon rim lighting against a dark background does a lot of heavy lifting. Cyberpunk style photos are the single most 'liked' style in our internal testing โ the contrast pops on every device, and it works for almost any cat coloring.
2. Renaissance Oil Painting
This is the one to use if you want something that looks expensive. Soft brushwork, warm color grading, and classical lighting turn an ordinary cat photo into something that looks like it belongs in a gallery โ genuinely good as a printed gift.
3. Pop Art
Bold outlines and flat, saturated color blocks. This style is the most forgiving of low-quality source photos because it simplifies detail rather than trying to preserve it.
4. Vaporwave
Pink-and-cyan gradients, grid horizons, a faint VHS glow. Best for cats with lighter fur โ the pastel palette tends to wash out very dark cats.
5. Anime
Surprisingly hit-or-miss depending on your cat's facial structure, but when it lands, it's one of the most popular share-to-Discord styles we've seen.
- ๐พ6. Gothic โ moody, high-contrast, great for black cats
- ๐พ7. Watercolor โ soft and gift-card friendly
- ๐พ8. Pixel Art โ small file size, great for profile icons
- ๐พ9. Y2K โ nostalgic, glossy, good for younger audiences
- ๐พ10. 3D Render โ the most 'realistic but clearly not a photo' option
How to get better results in any style
Regardless of style, a clear, well-lit, front-facing photo of your cat will outperform a blurry or backlit one almost every time. If you don't have a usable photo, you can skip the upload entirely and describe your cat from scratch โ the generator handles text-only prompts just as well.
The biggest mistake we see: uploading a photo where the cat takes up less than a third of the frame. Crop tight before you upload.
